Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution method where you and your soon to be spouse decide how to end your marriage.  In Divorce Mediation the couple meets with a third-party neutral (mediator) in order to help them achieve a mutual and informed agreement for the terms of their separation, divorce or post-divorce issues. There are several issues covered in divorce mediation such as but not limited to:

  1. Division of Assets
  2. Child Support
  3. Parenting Time
  4. Alimony
  5. Retirement and Taxes

Our Divorce Mediation Services gives you and your spouse the opportunity to negotiate a divorce settlement in a more amicable setting by working with a trained facilitator. The mediation process fosters cooperation between partners and produces less stress and hostility than is usually associated with litigation. Mediation often reduces the time and costs of divorce and puts the decisions in your hands. Our experienced mediators can help you obtain the most equitable divorce settlement, fair child support agreement, and healthy child custody arrangement.

Divorce Mediation v. Traditional Divorce

In a traditional divorce, each of the parties hires lawyers which in turn guide their expectations based the application of the law. The traditional divorce process can be adversarial with both parties assuming positions and strategies advocated by their attorneys which at the end the parties relied on the court to make a decision about their marriage.  In contrast, mediation is a process in which the parties take control and make their own decisions with the help of an impartial third party; the mediator. The benefit of choosing mediation over traditional divorce is the power to gain control of the process and ability to reach an agreement that is acceptable to both parties.  In addition to having control of your case, mediation is a faster process, cost-effective and amicable.

What happens during meditation?  The divorcing couple meets with an impartial third party which is one of our divorce mediators.   The parties discuss their expectation and their needs and work together to reach a resolution.  Once a resolution is reached the parties enter the agreement, and the divorce is filed and the agreement is entered into the court.
